The SoCal Express Girls have a wonderful coaching staff with years of experience to help grow and develop these lacrosse players on and off the field.

    “As the JSerra High School Head Coach and Pomona Pitzer College Assistant, it is an honor to collaborate with peers at both levels through SoCal Express.  We make ourselves better when we make each other better!  I love the game of lacrosse and helping players be their best while seeing them make friends with players from other programs!  It has been a blast helping to grow the game of lacrosse in Southern California in a collaborative way with other fun and talented coaches!”

  • Olivia Smart- Current Edison Co-Head Coach
    Olivia Smart graduated in 2015 from Foothill High School. She just finished her
    final semester at Cal State Fullerton and has graduated with a degree in Child
    and Adolescent Development. Olivia began coaching when she was 17 years
    old and coaching has been her passion ever since. Currently, she is the head
    coach at Edison High School. In her free time, Olivia enjoys spending time with
    her dog, Piper, and going camping with her Dad.
    “I have been a coach for seven years now. I love coaching because I get to be
    a part of a player’s journey. Coaching for SoCal is great because of the
    relationships that I have made with other coaches and players.”


  • Sam QuilterCoach Sam Quilter is a Maryland native. Born and raised
    Ocean City, Md, she has been playing since she could walk and
    on a team at age 4! She played four years of varsity at Stephen 
    Decatur High, winning regional championships and advancing to state 
    semis 2/4 years and competing for regionals all four years after winning 
    their conference.  She played for the Greene Turtle Travel Team from 
    age 11-13 and then for Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club all of high school.
    She was invited to try-out and selected to play for the Mid-Atlantic 
    team in the National Tournament summer before her senior year.
    went on to study Math with a specialty in Education and minor in 
    Athletic Coaching at Salisbury University where she also played under
    Coach Nestor for 2.5 years before a back injury forced her early 
    retirement.  At Salisbury, in addition to playing, she was a young life 
    leader and on leadership for FCA all four years - two organizations
    near and dear to her heart. All throughout high school and college she coached youth rec and travel teams and refereed.  During her senior year she coached middle and high school at the local private school.  After graduation, she moved out to SoCal where she is now the head coach at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, helps coach youth, and is heavily involved at Hillsong OC Church. ​
    “What I love most about Express is the opportunity to coach so many wonderful players from all over Southern California.  Being able to watch them grow as players and young women and seeing them step into their goals and future is such a blessing.”

  • Courtney Novak - Current Los Al Head Coach, Chapman University (NCAA D III) Assistant Coach.  
    Growing up and playing lacrosse in New Jersey from an early age, Courtney
    Novak learned the game through playing defense for Watchung Hills
    Regional High School (Warren, NJ) and then for Ursinus College
    (Collegeville, PA). After suffering a career-ending injury at the end of her
    freshman season, she dove into coaching at Spring-Ford High School
    (Royersford, PA) as the Head JV/Assistant Varsity Coach for two seasons.
    Each summer, Courtney coached for T3 Lacrosse (Basking Ridge, NJ) and fell
    in love with coaching. Upon graduation from Ursinus with a degree in
    Psychology and minors in Neuroscience and Coaching, she moved to Long
    Beach, CA to pursue her Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology. While in
    Southern California, she became the assistant coach at Los Alamitos High
    School for the 2018 season and the following season became the head
    coach. After graduating from Long Beach State University in 2019, she
    maintained her coaching positions at Los Alamitos and SoCal Express as a
    head coach and the College Lacrosse Adviser for the club. She also became
    the Girl’s Coordinator for Beach Cities Youth Lacrosse (Los Alamitos, CA) in 2019 and was named the Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Chapman University (Orange, CA). ​

  • Emily Cabuling - 
    Coach Cabuling played lacrosse for 14 years and has been coaching at
    various levels for over 10. During her time as a player at Concordia
    University Irvine, she was a two time All American and captain all four
    years while working towards her degree in psychology. Coach Cabuling
    has helped athletes with skill development, game knowledge, and
    maintaining a positive mentality. Her other passions in life consist of
    teaching at the preschool level, going to the beach, and loving her
    family and friends.
